Moroccan Cactus Silk Bag Collection
When you walk the Souk, its narrow allies are draped in stunning handwoven rugs and pillows. Morocco is known for its “cactus silk” which is a descriptor for their silk-like woven pieces that come in a rainbow of stunning colors. From the moment we saw these amazing rugs, we knew we wanted to make something unique from them.
The carpets are made by women in villages surrounding the Medina. They are constantly making these pieces, often using old, wooden looms that have been in their homes for several generations. It takes two days to weave enough material to make one of our bags.
The symbols and motifs on the bags speak to an abundant life with family and children.
The money the women earn from their hand-weaving is used to improve their family’s lives.
The rugs are brought into the city of Marrakech, where our design is brought to life.
The patterns are carefully cut from the one-of-a-kind rugs, so each piece is completely unique.
