A Picture is Worth a Thousand Words

It’s that time of year again—time to give thanks for family, friends, and togetherness. I wrote about my childhood family traditions last year; you can read it here.

It turns out that my “Melina Note” fell on Thanksgiving again, so you're stuck with me. :) The problem is, this year our family planned a trip to Europe over Thanksgiving break to visit our youngest daughter, who is in college in ScotlandSo how can I convey quintessential essence of family easily while traveling?

Well, my family did not fail me. In one picture, I can tell you all about them and the meaning of familySharing is Caring.

Let me explain…Despite years of being right and offering sage advice, my adult children still think my suggestions are silly. I warned them that it was going to be in the 30s and to pack warmly. Yet, every single child failed on some level. From left to right:

Max (age 25): is wearing my neck warmer and my MERSEA fur hat.

Daniel (age 21): is wearing the hat I brought for him because I knew he would not bring oneBut, he also did not bring a coatI am not joking, he only brought hoodies, so he is wearing his dad’s extra coat.

Dan: a perfect father and husband

Me: I am feeling pretty perfect amongst these yahoos.

Annabelle (age 20): is wearing the MERSEA fur headband I brought for MYSELF and has freezing feet because she only brought loafers for shoes. Later that day she wore my tennis shoes and my wool socks.

Thomas (age 23): is wearing my MERSEA cashmere scarf. Again, a scarf I planned on wearing, but now we can say we have unisex winter accessories. He is also sporting ski gloves that I brought for myself (note my bare, cold hands).

If we were at home for Thanksgiving, it would be something else but just as similar. They would take my chargers, my car, my face wash, my special snacks and I would sound indignant. But it would all be an act. Because I can’t wait to see them. I feel so much love and joy when I have them all back around me. They can take everything from me because they are my family. And sharing is caring.

Happy Thanksgiving!
