Postcards from Bali

One of the gifts of being in the creative world is meeting other like-minded artisans. Sometimes we find ourselves obsessed with the beautiful things they create. The Mer-Sea Co-Lab is the product of our obsessions. We have got to have it, so you get to have it.

We kicked off our Co-Lab with precious pieces of hand-made jewelry from the House of Alaia. These simple pieces were the result of many fun discussions and explorations with designer, Nea Hildebolt

We thought you might like seeing a little of her world. We wish we could join her...

What is something that inspires you daily?

A split-screen image featuring a quote on the left and two young children in an outdoor setting on the right. The text on the left reads: 'my children & their unending sense of wonder & excitement'. On the right, one boy wears a baseball cap and the other stands beside him; both are outdoors amidst green foliage.

What is your first product design that started your path to where you are now?

A purple lotus flower with a yellow center next to handwritten notes about the meaning of lotus flower earrings. Text: "lotus flower earrings - the symbolism was so powerful to me & wearing it inspired me to move through life's challenges to rise above them - & I realized jewelry could be a beautiful tool for self-evolution"

What is something you want people to know about Bali - is it the people, the scenery?

A split-screen image featuring handwritten inspirational text on the left and a person's hands working at a jewelry workstation on the right. The text reads: 'in Bali people are constantly living through their hearts & express gratitude for all aspects of life through daily offerings & you feel this permeate life with this sublime joy & presence'.

A stone path made of flat circular pavers leading across a calm pond towards a serene garden with lush green trees and foliage under a soft, misty atmosphere.

What is one place you would like for people to see in Bali?

A split image featuring a hand-written note about the terraced rice fields of Tabanan and Jatilujih in Bali on the left, and a close-up photo of a blooming pink and white hibiscus flower on the right. Text: "the terraced ricefields in Tabanan - Jatilujuh. They are a testament to the gentle, hard working Balinese who have patiently sculpted the earth into a work of art that gives life — this really embodies the spirit of Bali"

  What is your latest obsession?

A split image containing a handwritten note on the left and two decorative butterfly jewels on the right. The note reads: 'my latest obsession is the book The Sophia Code by Kaia Ra. reading her teachings has empowered & uplifted me in ways I am only beginning to understand. I am embodying more of my true feminine self every day.' The butterflies are made of gold-tone metal with one featuring a green gemstone and the other a blue stone.

Merci, Nea!
